I had my doctors appointment on Tuesday afternoon at 1:20. The doctor checked my cervix and said that I was dilated to a 3 and then asked me if I wanted her to strip my membranes. I figured that if it worked we would have her that day or the next and I wouldn't have to worry about her being born on Christmas. So I said sure even though they were going to induce me on the 29th. So she did and sent me on my way. The contractions pretty much started while I was on my way home but they weren't strong or regular at all. By the time Justin got home from work at 4pm they were consistently 10 minutes apart and were getting strong. At 5pm they were 5 minutes apart and still getting stronger. I was pretty sure that I was going to have her but I didn't want to go all the way to the hospital and get sent home. By 6:30pm they were still 5 minutes apart and still getting stronger. I started having bloody show so I said, lets go. We got to the hospital just after 7 and on the way there the contractions were between 3 to 5 minutes apart. They got us hooked up to the monitors and checked my cervix and I was still dilated to a 3 and the contractions had slowed down. So they sent us home after monitoring my blood pressure for a while. We got home at 9:30pm and as soon as I walked in the door I had the kind of contractions that made you want to scream. At first they were 10 minutes apart so I knew I wasn't going to get any sleep. Justin went upstairs to get as much sleep as he could and Connie stayed up with me downstairs to help time the contractions (I am so glad that she was able to be here for this, it really has been a blessing). I knew that once the contractions were 5 minutes apart it would be time to head out since we had to drive all the way down to the hospital again. At 11pm they were 8 minutes apart. At 11:15 they were 5 minutes apart. At 11:30 they were 3 minutes apart. After 3 contractions being 3 minutes apart, we left for the hospital. The whole way there, they were 3 minutes apart and they were the most painful contractions I have ever had. We got to the hospital at 12:15am and they checked my cervix. I was only dilated to a 6, 90% effaced and at a +1 station and my waters were still in tact. I felt I needed to push so bad and so I yelled that I felt like I needed to (this was before I was actually admitted...I was still in a triage room) and the nurse hit me in the leg and yelled at me that I COULD NOT PUSH! She was pretty mean about it. Anyway, we got into our room and right away they broke my water. I thought I was going to be in labor for a long time still and I was in so much pain. But luckily she came really really quickly. I pushed twice really hard and she was out. She was born at 12:44am on December 24. She weighed 7 lbs 3 oz and 18 inches long and has a ton of black hair. I am still amazed at just how fast she was born. It was even faster than Nathan's.

She nurses like a champ. I have never seen a baby be a "natural" at nursing until now. She was hungry when she came out and she was letting everyone know. So as soon as they gave her to me, I went to put her on there thinking that i would have to try to coax her to latch on. But she did it all on her own and went to town. She's a really happy baby as long as she is warm. She hates being out of her blankets and absolutely HATES having her diaper changed. Amelia does really well with her and likes to look at her. She loves to help with things and is really excited about Lily.

Nathan is doing really well too. I was afraid that he was going to get jealous and not be happy at all. But he loves Lily and is always asking where she is and is so concerned when she cries.

Actually, at 3 am I was changing her diaper after I fed her and she was crying and I hear Nathan in his room saying, "Baby crying? Baby crying?" He just loves her so much and it is such a relief to me that he is so taken with her.

So glad she's here and to see pictures! I agree with Allison, I can see some of her big brother in her. Love all that dark hair, and glad that everything went okay. You should have punched that nurse and then blamed it on the stress and anxiety of labor. Congratulations!
