The Honolulu Zoo

Today we spent the day at the Honolulu Zoo. It is something that we had wnated to do since we got here but didn't really have time to do it. Today, we made sure that we did it.

At first I was a little skeptical about how it would be. It isn't something that I have heard people say that we should "definitely see" while we are here like so many other places. Plus, it was a cheap day. It kinda makes you a little leery when it costs $8 for our family. But when we got there, I was suprised. They had a wide variety of animals there. We saw birds of all kinds. There were flamingos, peacocks galore, scarlet macaws (Amelia loved those...thanks Diego) and toucans.

My favorite part of all was the elephants. I was pretty excited that we didn't have to wait forever to see them. There was a mommy and baby elephant. That was the highlight of the day for me. It did make me a little sad though how small there pen was. But it made me feel better when I saw that they are building them a new home.

Amelia enjoyed seeing all the animals. For some reason, she was really excited about seeing the zebras. Like they have become her favorite animal or something. Who knows, maybe they have. She made it a point that we knew that she really wanted to see the zebras. She kept asking to see them.
I think the best part of the day was the tiger. We had almost missed it entirely. It was right next to the playground and we didn't realize that it was the tigers cage. I thought it was just a garden of some sort. Until I saw the sign for it. The tiger was walking around like it was showing off. It kept walking right in front of the gate. Back and forth. Because it kept doing that we got some pretty awesome pictures and Amelia got to see a real tiger up close. She thought it was so cool.
I think the thing that I liked so much about the zoo was that the animals were fairly close. You felt safe but the animals were close enough that you could actually see them. They weren't so far away that the only way you knew what animal they were was from the sign. So if you are ever in Honolulu and are looking for something fun to do with the whole family, hit up the Honolulu Zoo. It is definitely worth it.

I like the zoo, small enough to see in about half a day, which is about my tolerance for this sunny place! Glad you guys are getting out.
