Happy Thanksgiving

After I had Nathan, I had been having major headaches. I couldn't eat and I couldn't get up off the couch. I tried calling my ob/gyn and he said that it MIGHT have something to do with my epidural or it might not. I had the choice of either going to see my primary care doctor or to call the anesthesiologist and talk to her. So on Wednesday, I had Justin come home from school and take me to my doctor. She THOUGHT it might be a sinus infection, but wasn't sure so she gave me some meds and sent me home. After talking to a friend, I did some research about problems that can happen from getting an epidural. I decided to call the anesthesiologist Thursday morning. Well, I was told to call my doc (who wasn't in cause of the holiday). And then I had to call another doctor who was on call and she told me she thought it was because of my epidural and had me go into the ER. We spent 6 hours in there and the anesthesiologist came in and explained that about 1% of the time an epidural is done, it goes in a little too far and causes a small whole to be made near the spine. That causes fluid to leak and causes your brain to sag a little. That causes the headaches and nausea. So what he did was a blood patch. He drew blood from my arms (and my foot) and put it into my back where the epidural was done. Instantly I felt relief. Everyday since then, I have been feeling better and better. We missed out on our Thanksgiving dinner, but I have PLENTY to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Two beautiful children, the best husband in the world (literally) and my health. It really made me realize how much I take my health for granted. I wasn't able to take care of my family or my home. I had to totally rely on Justin to take care of the house and I was barely able to change and feed the kids. To say the least, it was one of the best Thanksgivings for me even though I spent most of it in the ER.
